Please make us your Co-op local good cause

>> Monday 11 November 2019. If you're a Co-op member, every time you buy Co-op branded products and services, 1% is donated to your chosen local good cause. You can now choose The Brooklands Centre to receive your donations. We're raising money to convert a room at the Centre into a relaxed area where older residents of the town can meet, enjoy a cup of tea, have a chat or take part in craft activities. Please make Brooklands your local Co-op cause!

New mini-bus officially launched by town Mayor

>> Friday 8 March 2019. Today, we were delighted to have the Mayor of Newport Pagnell, Councillor Paul Day, officially launch our new mini-bus.

The new vehicle will transport older members of the local community to and from activities at the Centre and was custom-designed and built by a specialist coachbuilding company in Devon. It is fully-equipped with features such as a ramp and is able to carry a wheelchair passenger.

The new mini-bus was funded through the Centre itself, grants from the Harry Middleton Trust and the MK Community Foundation, as well as public support through the Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ blue token scheme.

The replacement vehicle was officially put into service by the Mayor at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by some of the centre’s volunteers, Trustees, sponsors and those who worked hard to get the vehicle on the road. The Harry Middleton Trust was represented by David Kirkbright and the MK Community Foundation by Kay Jackson.

Trustee, John Gordon, commented: “This new, specially-designed mini-bus will help us provide the best possible service to older people in Newport Pagnell for many years to come. We’d like to thank everyone involved and especially the Harry Middleton Trust, MK Community Foundation and the members of the public who supported us in the Tesco blue token scheme. The grants we received and the money we won helped us get the mini-bus into service as soon as possible.”

Bill Watson's retirement tea party

>> Thursday 28 February 2019. This week, we said a big thank you and farewell to Bill Watson, one of our long-serving and loyal volunteers. We held a retirement tea party at the Centre for Bill and his wife, Christine.

After he retired from work, Bill volunteered as a mini-bus driver and he was both a driver and a passenger escort for more than 15 years. During this time he was often seen on a Monday helping our Day Club members use our mini-buses to get to and from their homes and the Centre.

Bill was a faithful and caring volunteer and well-known for carrying out his duties with a smile. He escorted members between their front doors and the vehicle and made sure that they were all safe and wearing their seat belts!

Bill is also very practical and used his many skills in the Centre. For example, he constructed two trolleys to store and move our folding chairs.

Many thanks, Bill, for your long service and commitment no matter what the weather or the circumstances. Enjoy your retirement and your time with Christine. We'll definitely miss you! See photos of Bill's retirement tea.

There were stalls in aid of the Brownies and Friends of Willen Hospice (toys and games) as well as others selling jigsaws and Christmas gifts, cards, decorations and wrapping paper. There was also a chance to try your luck at the bottle tombola, lucky dip, name the giant teddy or the hamper raffle!
