OUR NEWS 2021
Christmas Tree Festival
14 December 2021. Many thanks to Sandy Payne, one of our Trustees, who created the Centre's enTREE in this year's Christmas Tree Festival at the parish church.
The eye-catching, flashing design was based on empty tonic water bottles donated by Sandy's brother!

Two Red-Letter QAVS days for the Centre
6 July 2021. Having won the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service last year, our Volunteers recently enjoyed two Red-Letter Day events to celebrate their success.
The QAVS is recognised as the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary groups and the Centre was nominated for the award by Cllr Paul Day, the Mayor of Newport Pagnell, in 2019.
Our Trustees and a number of Volunteers were finally presented with the engraved glass award on Friday 25 June at an official ceremony (held under COVID-19 restrictions) by Countess Elizabeth Howe DL, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire.
The following day, Volunteers who couldn't attend the official presentation enjoyed a social get-together at the Centre, which included a specially baked QAVS-decorated cake.

Re-opening the Centre w/c 21 July
18 June 2021. Following the Prime Minister's recent announcement, the Centre will now be fully re-opening as of Monday 19 July.
This will include the use of our mini-buses but, please note that our Saturday Lunch Club won't start back until September.
In preparation for opening our doors again, we're currently giving the building a thorough deep clean and a general spruce up so that it's spick and span to welcome everyone back.
We'll also be organising refresher sessions for our fantastic team of volunteers on the new ways of doing things, as well as asking them about any concerns they might have regarding returning.
These sessions will take place during w/c 21 June. Letters will be going out and we're asking our volunteers to attend the Centre at their usual times during that week so that we can make sure that everyone knows how we'll be operating and how to keep everyone as safe as possible.
We've had quite a few requests to join us from people who've not previously attended the Centre. That's great and we're really looking forward to welcoming lots of new faces, but we ask that they wait a couple of weeks before starting with us so that we can get properly used to the new way of doing things.
There will be lots of changes - Hands, Face, Space - so we need to make sure that we're really ready to greet new people. It isn't going to be easy but it'll be great seeing everyone again and we can't wait to bring the Centre back to life!
Easter egg surprises
2 April 2021. Re-opening The Brooklands Centre is still a way off yet, so some of our volunteers decided to surprise the members of our three Day Clubs (many of whom live alone) with some Easter fun and sweet treats.
The team spent Good Friday touring the town in fancy dress delivering chocolate eggs, scones, jam and the Centre's April newsletter to nearly 40 members.
Seeing so many delighted faces was such a joy and made all the hard work worthwhile!
Many thanks to the bunnies and chicks involved - including Sandy and Sandra for organising and Jennifer for baking the scones. We hope you had a great day.
Have a lovely Easter, everyone. Hope to see you all soon!

Mini-buses promote our QAVS
2 March 2021. Having been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service last June our mini-buses have been decorated with the QAVS logo.
We're looking forward to seeing everyone again later in the year and getting the Centre back to its lively self as soon as possible.
What's more, our mini-buses are eager to get back into action!
In the meantime, stay safe!
